We are thrilled to share our first episode of Season 2, Repair Across Industries.
This episode’s guest is Joe Macleod, creator of the ‘endineering’ concept that we love. He talks about how our culture really teaches people to buy, but it doesn’t support them when they’re done with their items, it’s just a cliff that we fall off of and aren’t sure where to turn with our broken and unwanted things. (Spoiler: the storage industry is a favorite way to ‘away’ our things without really dealing with them.)

Fun Q+A
Here’s a fun survey we asked all of our guests to answer (so you’ll be seeing it in every newsletter for this season):
What’s your favorite example of a product to repair?
Joe: iPhones, computers. Love the technical aspects of it. And it’s super high risk. If it goes wrong, it goes really wrong.
Name something that you own and love and has been in use for more than 5 years.
Joe: Belstaff jacket. Over 10 years old. I love having to wax it, as it makes you reflect on it use and function. Also, makes you think about the last time you waxed it and what has happened since.
Cynthia’s unsolicited reaction: is this what ‘waxing nostalgic’ actually means?!
What is something you want to learn to repair yourself?
Joe: Maybe this is a little bit bigger than one item. But I love the re-wilding movement and would love to be able to help and take action doing that fixing the land. Planting trees seems wonderful, but I don’t know my Elm from my Ash, so would need to learn more about trees.
What is a product in your daily life that cannot be repaired that frustrates you?
Joe: Electronics as well. Not so much fixing, but slowing the redundancy in it. When a screen breaks in a phone, I feel I can fix that. But outdated device software is difficult to work against.
Enjoy and please let us know what you think! (Leaving a 5 star review and a comment is super duper great for our reputation if you think we deserve it.)
